Carved from Darkness, Ever so Softly

I've been struggling to find my artistic identity amongst my creative peers. Drawing, painting, illustrating, designing; I've had my hands in many mediums, and yet, am a master of none.

Digital painting has become my primary focus, and yet, I feel that not much has emerged from my efforts. I'm still afraid of putting my art out into the world for fear of the dislikes, harsh criticisms of my skills or dark themes, and all the other negative thoughts you can think of.

From this feeling "Carved from Darkness" emerged. I was preparing for my first vending event and only had one piece of finished artwork for attendees to view and purchase. In my anxiety and melancholy, I sat myself down and started painting what I knew best; the wolf. The symbol of my tenacity and resilience; the dark and wild animal inside me that reminds me of everything I've already overcome.

On my darkest days, I draw out the wolf in me and she pushes me past my self doubt. My protective thorns thwart the efforts of my negative thoughts, and I continue towards my goal to carve a path among the darkness toward the light of like minded peers, admirers, and friends.
